Driver's license regulations 2021
Below you will find the respective changes in the different categories.
A1 (motorcycles up to 125cc and max. 11KW power):
The 50 cc motorcycles may now be driven from the age of 15 and the 125 cc motorcycles from the age of 16 and should thus offer better mobility for young people. Previously, the A1 category driver's license was only available from the age of 18.
A2 (Motorräder bis 35KW)
This category replaces the previous limited category A and can as usual be obtained from the age of 18.
Attention: Anyone who holds a category A 35 kW learner's permit must now be in possession of the driver's license by 30.06.2021, so that the lifting of the power restriction is possible, at the earliest two years after issuance, without a practical driver's test. It is important that you are in possession of the learner's permit until 31.12.2020.
A (motorcycles without restriction)
The biggest drawback, however, is that direct entry will no longer be possible. In the future, anyone who wants to ride the most powerful motorcycles must first ride a category A2 motorcycle limited to 35 kW for at least 2 years. The promotion to the unrestricted category requires an additional practical driving test.
